Oracle Supply Chain Software Suite

Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), PeopleSoft Enterprise, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, JD Edwards World ERP suites and Oracle Retail (a combination of the old Retek and 360Commerce) are Oracle’s different enterprise offerings with built in Supply Chain Management software features. The following features are offered as standalone supply chain solutions and as an integrated extension of the E-Business suite:

  • Demantra Demand Management
  • Demantra Real-Time Sales & Operation Planning
  • Oracle Transportation Management (OTM)
  • Oracle E-Business Suite WMS (Warehouse Management Systems) which is sold as an E-Business Suite module and a standalone product
  • Oracle Supplier Hub and Supplier Lifecycle Management
  • Agile which is a Product Lifecycle Management solution

Oracle’s future direction for their business applications is Fusion Applications. Oracle has built Fusion applications from the ground up leveraging Oracle’s Fusion Middleware. Fusion applications architectures supports external cloud (SaaS and third party hosting), Oracle's cloud, and on premise deployment modes. Customers can follow the path to Fusion or stick with their current systems as part of the Applications Unlimited program. Oracle’s recommendations for customers that want to transition to Fusion are to stay current with the latest Oracle releases, adopt Oracle’s technology standards, and extend business applications using Fusion or other key Oracle offerings.

For the most part, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards and Oracle Retail SCM features are an extension of their ERP process, or utilize Supply Chain Management software modules from the EBS suite. This Supply Chain Management software review will focus on EBS; any modules that are used with other ERP suites are noted.

Oracle’s Planning Solutions

Oracle’s supply chain and value chain planning solutions enable companies to design, plan, and service their supply chains from factory to shelf. Its componentized architecture leverages the scalability and security of Oracle’s Database and Fusion Middleware technology and can be deployed with Oracle E-Business Suite, or integrated with other ERP suites.

Demand Management

Oracle ERP software apps use Oracle’s Demantra’s Demand Management solution for demand planning, forecasting and management. Other shared Oracle components are Demand Signal Repository and Advance Planning Command Center.

Planning and Demand Forecasting

Demantra places a high value on quality information at the right level of detail, capturing demand singles closer to the point of consumption, and understanding the underlying correlations and factors that impact demand. The forecast process can be top down, bottom up or middle out. For each time span, the quantitative forecast engines evaluate history against 35 different models and accuracy measures improve the statistical forecast. Overrides can be applied to reflect causal effects of planned or anticipated events. Self-learning and self-adapting algorithms combine the different models to maximize predictive accuracy (rather than historic fit) and to respond to changing market conditions. Demantra Demand Management can receive point of sale data directly from Oracle’s Demand Signal Repository, sensing real-time fluctuation in demand or shifts in demand.

Data Management

Multidimensional data architecture gives users slice and dice analytic capabilities at many dimensions and levels of granularity. Different departments can organize data so that each has their own view of up-to-date plans, while sharing the same base data.

Demantra Demand Management sources and maintains demand data from multiple systems. Different regional or business lines can selectively access data specific to their region, business line or responsibility.

Collaborative Demand Planning

Both internal and external stakeholders can have visibility and contribute to the forecasting process through role-based portals. Customers, account managers, executives and others with unique knowledge of causal factors impacting future demand help improve the demand forecast.

Oracle Demantra Demand Management is also fully integrated with Oracle’s Advanced Planning Command Center to provide key supply chain decision makers the capability to analyze output from demand management decisions. Configurable business rules enable users to spot trends, identify forecast variances, and respond to demand changes. Additional demand features include the following:

  • Quickly adds new products and forecasts their demand based on the sales history and characteristics of like products
  • Calculates forecast accuracy with standard measurements such as mean absolute deviation (MAD) and mean and absolute percentage error (MAPE)
  • Integrates with Oracle Advanced Planning Command Center and other Oracle supply chain modules
